# Billing

> Understand how Novu Cloud billing works: workflow runs, billing cycles, plans, and managing your subscription.

Novu Cloud subscriptions are billed at the **organization** level. Each organization has its own plan, usage limits, and billing settings. If you belong to multiple organizations, billing is managed separately for each one. See [Organizations](/platform/account/organizations) for how organizations relate to environments and team access.

<Note>
Billing applies to **Novu Cloud** only. The open-source Novu Project can be [self-hosted](/community/self-hosting-novu/deploy-with-docker) at no cost from Novu. Novu Cloud adds managed infrastructure, SLAs, and business features on top of the open-source core.
</Note>

## How Novu bills

Novu Cloud pricing is based on **workflow runs** — not subscribers, messages, or channels.

| What we bill | What we do not bill |
| ----------------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------- |
| Workflow runs executed across all environments in your organization | Number of subscribers |
| Usage above your plan limit (on-demand or contract rates on paid plans) | Individual messages or steps inside a workflow |
| | Provider costs (email, SMS, push, and so on) |

Workflow runs from **Development**, **Production**, and any custom environments all count toward the same monthly total for the organization.

## What is a workflow run?

A **workflow run** is one execution of a workflow for one subscriber.

* Triggering a workflow to a **single subscriber** counts as **1 workflow run**.
* Triggering a workflow to a **topic** with 100 subscribers counts as **100 workflow runs** after fan-out — one run per subscriber.

Each run represents a single execution instance for that subscriber, regardless of how many steps the workflow contains or how many channels deliver a message. You can inspect individual runs in the [Activity Feed](/platform/workflow/monitor-and-debug-workflow).

## Billing cycles and usage

Novu Cloud measures usage on a **monthly billing cycle** tied to your organization's subscription.

* **Included workflow runs** reset at the start of each billing cycle.
* **Usage is aggregated** across every environment in the organization during that cycle.
* **Paid plans** are billed monthly by default. Annual billing and volume discounts are available — see the [pricing page](https://novu.co/pricing) or contact sales for Enterprise.

If you exceed the workflow runs included in your plan, Novu does **not** stop or throttle your notifications. Additional usage rolls into on-demand pricing on paid plans, or is billed at your contract rate on Enterprise. See [What happens when I exceed my limit?](#what-happens-when-i-exceed-my-monthly-workflow-run-limit) below.

Only **organization Owners** can view billing details, change plans, and manage payment methods.

## Plans at a glance

For full feature comparisons, visit the [Novu pricing page](https://novu.co/pricing).

| Plan | Monthly price | Included workflow runs / month |
| -------------- | ------------- | ------------------------------ |
| **Free** | \$0 | 10,000 |
| **Pro** | \$30 | 30,000+ |
| **Team** | \$250 | 250,000+ |
| **Enterprise** | Custom | 10M+ (custom volume tiers) |

Higher tiers add capabilities such as custom environments, longer activity feed retention, RBAC, SSO, and advanced compliance. Plan-specific feature gates are noted throughout the docs — for example, [custom environments](/platform/developer/environments), [webhooks](/platform/developer/webhooks), and [SAML SSO](/platform/account/sso).

## Enterprise Edition on-premises

In addition to Novu Cloud, Novu offers an **Enterprise Edition** that you can deploy on your own infrastructure. Enterprise on-premises includes the same capabilities available on Novu Cloud — SSO, RBAC, audit controls, compliance features, and priority support — while keeping data and workloads inside your environment.

This option is a strong fit when you need:

* **Local data residency** — Keep subscriber data, notification content, and activity logs within your network or region.
* **Strict compliance requirements** — Meet regulatory and security standards common in banking, finance, healthcare, government, and other regulated industries.
* **Operational control** — Run Novu alongside your existing infrastructure, security policies, and deployment processes.

Enterprise on-premises is licensed separately from Novu Cloud subscriptions. Pricing is based on your deployment size, support needs, and contract terms.
