How Novu bills
Novu Cloud pricing is based on workflow runs — not subscribers, messages, or channels.| What we bill | What we do not bill |
|---|---|
| Workflow runs executed across all environments in your organization | Number of subscribers |
| Usage above your plan limit (on-demand or contract rates on paid plans) | Individual messages or steps inside a workflow |
| Provider costs (email, SMS, push, and so on) |
What is a workflow run?
A workflow run is one execution of a workflow for one subscriber.- Triggering a workflow to a single subscriber counts as 1 workflow run.
- Triggering a workflow to a topic with 100 subscribers counts as 100 workflow runs after fan-out — one run per subscriber.
Billing cycles and usage
Novu Cloud measures usage on a monthly billing cycle tied to your organization’s subscription.- Included workflow runs reset at the start of each billing cycle.
- Usage is aggregated across every environment in the organization during that cycle.
- Paid plans are billed monthly by default. Annual billing and volume discounts are available — see the pricing page or contact sales for Enterprise.

Enterprise Edition on-premises
In addition to Novu Cloud, Novu offers an Enterprise Edition that you can deploy on your own infrastructure. Enterprise on-premises includes the same capabilities available on Novu Cloud — SSO, RBAC, audit controls, compliance features, and priority support — while keeping data and workloads inside your environment. This option is a strong fit when you need:- Local data residency — Keep subscriber data, notification content, and activity logs within your network or region.
- Strict compliance requirements — Meet regulatory and security standards common in banking, finance, healthcare, government, and other regulated industries.
- Operational control — Run Novu alongside your existing infrastructure, security policies, and deployment processes.
